Princess Pixie's Peanut Butter Pony Bites

Here are some of the lower sugar cookies Mom said she'd make for me:

Princess Pixie's Peanut Butter Pony Bites

2 mashed bananas
1 cup smooth peanut butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour (or flax meal if you prefer)

1 cup Quaker Oats
2 tablespoons vanilla
3/4 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 teaspoon baking powder

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
2. In a large mixing bowl, mash bananas until liquidy. Then mix your coconut oil and peanut butter until smoothish.
3. Add in the applesauce, and mix again. Next, put in flour, oats, vanilla, baking soda, & baking powder. Mix until well blended. Add bananas and mix again.
4. Take a rounded teaspoon and spoon onto a cookie sheet.
5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, depending on your oven. Be careful not to overbake. It is important to let them cool for several minutes before attempting to take off of the sheet, it gives them time to harden.

Princess Pixie's Sparkly Flax Snax

Mom is always trying out new horse cookie recipes as many of the store bought ones out there are not fit for picky princess ponies. Here is her latest one:

Princess Pixie's Sparkly Flax Snax

1 cup oats (I used rolled horse oats since I had some at the barn, but if you want them to be human edible too, then use Quaker Oats or the like)
1 cup flour
3/4 cup flax meal
3 Tbsp coconut oil
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup molasses

Preheat over to 350. Mix the oats and flour in a large mixing bowl. Put the flax meal, coconut oil, baking powder, baking soda, & cinnamon in a food processor and mix together. Add to the flour and oats in the mixing bowl. Add the molasses and mix all the ingredients together until they become "dough like." Spoon tablespoon size balls onto greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with edible glitter in the color of your choice. (I chose purple.) Bake 15 mins. Then sprinkle with colored sugar (this time I chose blue!) and bake an additional 5-10 mins. Cool and feed to happy ponies :)

... and yes, I supposed you could make them without the glitter and colored sugar, but really, where's the fun in that?!

Mom says she's going to try and make some low sugar ones next time. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how they turn out...

Magic Pony Blankets

Ever since the horse show in March my back has been "ouchy." Mom says it's 'cause they make saddleseat horses show without saddle pads (which is stupid because obviously that's not good for Princess Ponies with sensitive backs) and I must have twisted something the wrong way during the show. It hasn't been THAT bad, it's just that sometimes in the morning before I've had a chance to be up and about and have a good roll, my right hip has just been "off." (Especially when Mom uses the curry comb. I HATE that stupid curry comb. Did I mention I'm a sensitive Princess Pony?) So there was some discussion about having an equine massagey person come to see if they could work my ouchies out, but after asking around and not finding anyone she felt was worthy of touching me (and also deciding it was probably too expensive to fly her friends Kellie and Bob out here from Georgia to do it... although I can't imagine that anything is too expensive when it comes to me, but apparently there's a limit of some sort... which probably explains my lack of a sparkly tiara as well) she decided to try another option.  So she got me a Therapeutic Back Pad from Back on Track products.

Now, I'm not a horse that is all that fond of change. Change is scary and generally snort worthy. I like things to be where they're supposed to be and to stay where they're supposed to stay. I was skeptical when Mom brought this big, black, new smelling blanket like thing into my stall. I snorted at it to see if it would go away, but instead it ended up on my back. I was not sure it should stay there and tried dancing around a bit to see if I could get it off, but Mom put my fly sheet on over it. (I'm well acquainted with my fly sheet so that made the new black pad less scary... it was still annoying, but annoying is better than scary.) The new pad was hot and I tried to tell Mom it wasn't working, but she told me to give it some time. So I waited. And paced around my stall. And waited. And tried to pull it off through my fly sheet. And waited. And... then I felt something. It got all warm and tingly and my back and hip all of a sudden felt magically better! I only got to wear it for a little while that first day but after a few days we built up to me wearing it for a couple of hours at a time and now after a couple of weeks my hip is all better! I'm not ouchy anymore! Mom says it's because of the ceramic fibers the pad is made of, but I think it's more probably made of magic... but whatever it is, I'm a fan. All Princess Ponies should have one. You can order one from LA Saddlery where my Mom works. Tell 'em I sent you :)

If you want all the medical like techno-speak as to how/why it works (I'm telling you, the answer is "Magic!") you can find that stuff here:

Semi-Healthy Horse Treats

Low sugar homemade oat, flax seed, and apple "chewies" for truly spoiled princess ponies :)

INGREDIENTS:

2 ½ cups unsweetened applesauce
½ cups oatmeal (I used the low sugar Quaker apple & cinnamon instant packets)
1 cup flax seed meal

1-2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

PREPARATION:

Preheat oven to 350F

Grease a 9 inch x 12 inch square cake pan with non-stick spray

Spread the batter evenly in the cake pan and bake for 20-30 minutes. The batter will start to shrink away from the sides and it will be firm to the touch.

Slice into squares while still warm. (I sliced them into 1 inch squares and it made about 60 of them.)

Keep the chewies in the refrigerator in an air-tight container or bag.

Blue Baby Horses

So Mom says we're getting a new little baby horse soon. (NO, it's NOT mine, I'm NOT that kinda mare!) This foal is going to be born in Georgia and is going to be the baby of Mom's "other" horse. (Yes, I know it's hard to imagine her loving anyone but me, but whatever.) This "other" mare is called Callie and apparently she went and got herself knocked up by some stallion named "Tig" and now Mom says I'm going to have to share her with their foal. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I like little horses... but I don't like to share... so that might be a problem. So anyway, here is a picture of that "other" mare and the stallion she's living with:

As you can see, my Mom likes red mares (Although she says there is no way the foal will be red. Something about "heterozygawatty" or some such scientific nonsense)... <Snort> Whatever. I must admit, that Callie horse is pretty (but obviously a hussy... not a perfect, princess pony like yours truly).

However, that Tig horse is quite handsome though... so maybe this new little baby horse won't be THAT bad... I sure hope it's "blue" like him. I'd like to have a little blue baby horse to boss around...

2012 Rainbow Royal Horse Show

Last weekend my mom took me to my first horse show... well, not really my first since my previous mom showed me in hand as a baby, but this was the first one where someone rode me! It was kinda scary and a little overwhelming. Mom said I did really well when I was trotting and pretty good when I was cantering...

...except for the flying lead change I did in one class. apparently that's a dressage thing that I'm not supposed to do when we're showing saddleseat... but I do beautiful tempi changes so I don't know why EVERYONE wouldn't want to see THAT!

Walking was a problem though. I HATE to walk. Walking is STUPID! It's SO much more fun to look around and watch the people standing outside the ring... and that's WAY easier to do if I'm side passing down the rail
:)

At the trot and canter I have to pay more attention... otherwise I'd trip over my own feet and that would be embarrassing and no one wants that. HeHeHe.

Cantering is the most fun! Sometimes I get to "canter" really, really fast... although apparently that's really called a "gallop" and I'm not supposed to do that in a class either. There are so many RULES in these silly horse shows. I'll have to try and remember them all better next time...

... but whatever. At least we had FUN!
